Pontchartrain
District Recharter Process
The charter process of our units is one of
the most important functions that we do as a unit and as a district.
This process is designed to provide the continuity of the Scouting
movement and the legitimacy of our units, while emphasizing the
involvement of our charter organizations. While the units sometimes
see this process as tedious and burdensome, we are working to
make it much smoother and easier. The purpose of the Charter is
to create a partnership between the Local Council, The Charter
Organization and the Unit to provide a scouting program to the
youth of our community. Using this method the Scouting program
allows the autonomy of a unit to provide a scouting program suitable
to a particular region or group of scouts, yet abide within the
guidelines provided by the National Council and The Charter Organization.
The Charter Process assures this partnership is created and maintained.
Please do not shortchange the scouts in your unit by using shortcuts
in this process.
Electronic
Re-Charter Information
The Southeast Louisiana Council, in an effort
to provide an easier and more accurate charter process, has made
the Scoutmate software available to the units at a reduced cost
$25.00 (Normally $49.95). This software can then be used for re-chartering,
with the additional benefits of providing all of the paperwork
that a unit needs to have a quality program, including advancement
reports, tour permits, and various other reports. As well, the
Council will provide the data that is has in its computer system
to load this software with your units data and get you up
and running as fast as possible. If your Unit has already purchased
and has been using one of the Scout-Net compatible Software packages,
it may continue to do so.
